Osteopathy

Osteopaths are primary healthcare professionals that focus on the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and rehabilitation of mechanical and structural problems of the body, which means those associated with muscles, ligaments, nerves, and joints. Osteopathy is distinctive in that it recognizes that much of the pain and disability we suffer stems from abnormalities in our body’s structure and function as well as damage caused to it by disease. Osteopaths aid the body’s natural healing ability.

How it works?
Osteopaths work with their hands using a variety of manual treatment techniques. These include soft tissue techniques, rhythmic passive joint mobilization and stretching to ease pain by reducing swelling and muscle spasm, and by improving mobility. In doing so function can be restored and the risk of wear and tear reduced. A great emphasis is placed on the importance getting patients to understand the cause of their problems. In addition osteopathy will give advice on care and prevention as well as lifestyle modifications and specific exercises.

How can I be sure I am in safe hands?
Osteopaths are statutorily regulated by The General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) via a detailed application process which ensures that they meet the highest standards of safety and competent practice, and have agreed to adhere to a strict Code of Practice. Osteopaths are recognized by The General Medical Council and British Medical Council.

Who benefits from Osteopathy & what do Osteopaths treat?
Osteopaths treat people of all ages from all walks of life. Osteopaths treat a variety of conditions including back pain, neck pain, slipped discs, headaches, whiplash, sports & work related injuries, trapped nerves, sciatica, shoulder and knee pain and postural problems related to pregnancy.
